Early January- Rio arrives at his new barn in Argyle.
January- Rio is on stall rest for his non-healing and infected left hind pastern wound. Trainer Lauren let me have a super fun lesson on Cascai.
February- Rio is back under saddle and I faced my fears and went for a gallop in the back field (he was of course perfect).
March- Rio goes to his first show. We win our first ribbon (2nd) in a very large (and long) Eq on the flat class
April- attend our 2nd schooling show and do a an entire o/f division for the first time (2’6). Win our first o/f ribbons, the best being a 2nd! Pc @if._.photograph
Late May- Something poisonous bites Rio’s right hind. This was at its worst.
Late June- 1st ride back after the spider bite incident, also just moved to our new barn in Flower Mound. Smile says it all!
August- back to jumping and taking lessons again. Feeling better then ever and getting excited for fall shows.
Late August- broken right hind splint bone that requires surgery.
September- lessons from MM on Clark keep my spirits up while Rio begins to recover.
September- 3 wks post-op and Rio is allowed out of stall jail, thrilled to see how happy he is.
October- Rio’s first ride back. Still doctoring his surgical wounds but he is doing well.
October- Got to meet the god himself and watch him ride and train (MM rode Clark!)
Late October- Rio is cleared for jumping and feeling stronger every ride. MM has taken over the reins of our training.
Late November- ordered my first ever custom saddle. So excited and I cannot wait until it arrives in February.
December- Rio and I make it to our first A show! (I often wondered if this day would ever come 😂).
December- Our first rated show is also our first time around the 3 ft ring and we had a total blast!!
2017 had its ups and downs but it was an INCREDIBLE year overall and I am very much looking forward to 2018. Rio is feeling better then ever and I have an amazing trainer and barn family 😍😄😃! So much to be thankful for!
My name is Kelly and I’m a late 20 something who is living the dream of owning a horse as “an adult”. I have officially become the Adult Amateur that I once dreaded as a youth- and I’m loving every horsey moment of it. Over the years I’ve dabbled in most English disciplines, and have firmly landed in hunter land. Now that I am finally living the horse owner dream I chronicle the excitement, disappointment, and general hilarity in this blog.
I have been reading your blog for a while now, and you have finally convinced me to start a blog of my own! I would be so grateful if you would be willing to read and share my new blog. I can’t wait to see what you and Rio accomplish in 2018!

Rio wins for grossest wounds, hands down. So glad they’re all finally under control and you guys are back in serious business!
A year of ups and downs (but oh the ups!)
