Rio Vet Update

I. Am. Staying. Positive.

SO positive.

Must stay positive!

If you haven’t yet, you may want to start by reading my last vet update, which included pics of Rio’s surgical sites up until that point.

Let’s start with the RH (original site of spider bite wound and where he broke his splint bone which is what required surgery). We are still treating it with SSD and wrapping every day or every other on occasion.

So… the progress pic from 9/12 REALLY reminds me of one of the progress pics after his spider bite. IDK what it means (if anything, could just be part of the normal healing process). That bubbly look is what I am talking about:

Sure looks like this old photo from spider bite healing:

Am I right?!? Mildly interesting.

Now to the Left Hind. We started a new product on it last Thursday (PES Derm by Precision ย Joint Solution).

Yah… pretty positive that is turning into some lovely proud flesh. I have no comment on this other then we are trying our best and will continue to do whatever is necessary to treat it.

Should be starting daily laser treatments either Sunday or Monday, so we will see if that does anything. Honestly, unless you have some tried and true methods to help combat proud flesh- I am not really looking for advice at this point. I’m up to my ears in advice (lots of it REALLY good, and I really appreciate it!) but we can only try so many treatments at a time, so we are currently staying the course. I send Amazing Vet like daily updates and she is working just as hard as I am to get Rio where he needs to be. I am staying positive (if I keep saying it do you think it will work?) and trying to be patient. Good vibes always welcome!

Rio is happily back in the normal turnout rotation, so that really sets my mind at ease knowing he can take his time to heal and is no longer cooped up and stressed out in his stall.

Rio and I are feeling the same vibes this week ๐Ÿ˜ด #lazypon #hunkyhanoverian

  1. Strangely fascinated by all this – and also totally appalled! So sorry you two are having to fight your way through it! Keeping everything crossed for you.

    1. Same! If this wasn’t my horse I’d he thrilled to follow the journey LOL.

Being medically minded myself, I occasionally manage to take a step back and ponder how interesting this whole wound healing process is. I also find it incredibly frustrating though. It feels like you never know what is the “right” thing to do and are constantly second guessing yourself. Sigh ๐Ÿ™„.

  2. holy cow, I am staying positive for you too! (At least Rio is on turnout again!) YAY.

I hope something works for you.

Those are ugh….some gross photos. OH positive! I am positive they are gross. LOL

Just trying to keep the levity up. You guys will find the fix soon i have faith!!

Again at least he is back out on turnout.

Hugs to you and the whole team. (I dont think Rio cares in the least!).

    1. ROFL that really made me laugh. I am also positive it’s gross!

You are so right though, Rio doesn’t care one iota so that’s the best part. He thinks his life now involves eating, playing, and getting doted on by yours truly ๐Ÿ˜‚.

  3. it’s uncanny how similar the wounds are, from such drastically different causes. sending positive vibes your way!

i’ve heard that blue wonder dust stuff can sometimes be good for proud flesh but dunno how it would compare to what you’re already trying. good luck all the same!

  4. Good vibes for you guys! I’m kind of at the point with Bobby’s effing sarcoidosis and foot where my next treatment plan is to stop treating everything. You want to be ungrateful for my efforts, weird disease? See how much you like being ignored! Obvi not a good plan for Rio. Or Bobby. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Omg don’t think I haven’t considered it. My parents have 3 acres and my 30 year old retired horse. I have been tempted more then once to drop him off there and say “Good luck!” ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
